Do farmer groups improve the situation of women in agriculture in rural Kenya?

Production by smallholders in rural Kenya is limited institutional, technical and investment constraints. Female farmers are the majority among have significant roles agriculture; nonetheless, they face constraints accessing resources. Recent primary data of 347 (proportional random sampling) was used to examine: (a) factors affecting women’s participation (b) influencing female farmers’ decision join a farmer group; (c) effect membership group on crop yield. We applied Probit linear regression with endogenous treatment maximum likelihood methods. Results reveal that positively influenced land ownership. Women’s affected access credit, negatively decision-making power lack land. Crop yield years ownership mobile phones, credit. Farmer groups particularly effective platform improve yields other confronting farmers. Surprisingly, this under-utilised. Policymakers should invest human, financial physical capital as pathway development, improved livelihoods reduced poverty.
